Turkey Hunting with Children

(03-26-2009)

We all agree that kids need to spend more time hunting, fishing and camping. However, oftentimes we fail to properly prepare for a day outdoors with a child. If you plan on taking a youngster turkey hunting this spring, use this checklist as a guide for things you should bring on your next hunt. With the warm weather and beautiful days, springtime is one of the best seasons of the year to introduce kids to hunting. It is important to make a young hunter’s first outdoor experience an enjoyable one. The goal is to create a life-long passion for the outdoors with each child that we introduce to this great activity. All it takes is one positive experience to ignite a lifetime of outdoor fun. The 2009 youth turkey season is set for April 25. Please refer to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources’ hunting regulations for more information or visit their website at www.wvdnr.gov.
